Physical Education National Standards!
|
In PE, we focus our grading system on achieving all of the National Standards for Physical Education. These standards make sure that all students can achieve not only success in movement and skills, but that they are learning cognitively, emotionally, and for internal passion of healthy and active lifestyles.
With these 5 standards, students will be graded through various activities, assessments, writing projects, and personal/social behaviors. If you would like to learn more about the PE National Standards, please click the link below and visit the SHAPE America Website:

K-5 Grading Scales & Rubric!
***Note: These are generically the same for all age levels, but will be graded on a different scale of expectations for our younger grade levels vs. our upper grade levels. Students will have the same assignments and totals points awarded, however, the expectations will be grade level appropriate! If you have further questions, please see the contact section below! ***
Standard 1: 30%
Students will be graded on their attendance, participation, work ethic, and ability to progress towards learning new skills. Students will be expected to participate in our PE classes from start to finish. This includes warm up activities, instructional discussions, game play activities, and a closing discussion about the skills learned that day. Also this year we will be having an assessment project due to Covid-19. Students will be given a project that can be turned in at any point during the first quarter. They will be asked to choose ONE skill (kicking, throwing, dribbling, passing, ect.) and will turn in a short project on their journey through learning, practicing, and mastering that skill. Standard 2: 15%
This standard will be graded through a once a week Exit Ticket asking a cognitive question about the activities that we have been participating in this week! Standard 3: 20%
This standard will be graded once a quarter when students do their Fitness Testing! Students will be graded on goal setting, effort, and progress through each quarter of testing. Students will also receive points for engaging in a health class with a short quiz or activity at the end! Standard 4: 25%
Standard 4 is very important and commonly used in PE. This standard will be graded daily by students being respectful, responsible, and safe in PE. Students can earn a total of 3 points a day for standard 4. In order to get 3 points, students will need to be kind, be a good role model, be a leader, be helpful, and be a positive energy in class. In order to receive 0 points, students would have to be unsafe, disrespectful, not be involved in class, or not follow social distancing guidelines for PE. Standard 5: 10%
At the end of the 8 week quarter, students will be asked to sit down and draw or explain their favorite game/activity/sport was that quarter. |
